Words and phrases with multiple meanings highlight how fantastic and utterly confusing the English language can be. On paper, "Head lock?" seems like a relatively simple clue, but it isn't.

The answer is "TRESS", which is a long lock of hair or a long curl coming out of your head. Again, when I mentioned the clue directly, that's true. It's a lock of hair on your head, and I can hear you gasp when you realize it. It's a handy little clue, and its position on the board should make the rest of the crossword puzzle easier.
