Over the weekend of August 3-4, Helldivers 2 reached its highest 24-hour player count in weeks, as players battle the addition of a new Stratagem.
Helldivers 2 – The Journey to Anti-Tank Mines and Why I Don't Want Them (Yet)
The current Major Order tasks Helldivers with eliminating 1.5 billion enemies in order to conduct an "Efficiency Review of currently available Mine Strategems." If players fail to reach the target, Super Earth will begin producing Anti-Tank Mines. This order caused Helldivers 2 to peak at 38,663 players on August 4, according to SteamDB, as players do everything they can to prevent these mines from being added.
This isn’t the first time Helldivers has chosen not to fight the Anti-Tank Mines. Back in April, players were given the choice between the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines and the RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher, with the launcher being the clear winner. A few months later, Helldivers selflessly chose to save the children of Vernen Wells instead of securing the Anti-Tank Mines on Marfark. This act of true patriotism was even celebrated by Arrowhead Game Studios, who donated to a children’s charity.
Now, the Anti-Tank Mines are back, threatening to once again join the list of available Stratagems on the Super Destroyer. At the time of writing, the required kill count has passed 700 million, and with just over a day left until the Major Order expires, it's time to rally around and prove to yourself that you don't need those Anti-Tank Mines. "Gather all your friends who have ever had an account. We can't let this Major Order fail," read a Reddit post on August 4.
