Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has shot down any dreams of a linear story mode for Helldivers 2, but further discussions have revealed that features like guild formation or a photo mode aren't out of the question as the team prepares for a summer break.
Helldivers 2 – I tested EVERY new weapon in the Freedom's Flame Warbond
Discussions about new additions to Helldivers 2 began this week in the comments of a May 31 post on X (formerly Twitter). While sharing Arrowhead’s job listing for a new outsourcing producer, Jorjani took the time to answer several questions from interested fans, one of which raised grievances with the way the game was being run. After Jorjani responded, another Helldivers player commented that they would love a story mode with “epic moments and tragic scenes.” Jorjani quickly shut the door on such an addition.
“That’s not happening. Sorry bro,” Jorjani said, explaining that putting together a new linear story mode for the title would be like “building a whole new game.” It’s also relatively hard to see why such a mode would be necessary after all the investment Arrowhead has put into its GM and lore team, who have already created something quite unique in an ever-evolving, story-driven multiplayer campaign.
The interested Helldivers fan later clarified that they were referring to specific features that could improve the existing experience, such as a guild system where players could group up in larger numbers and fight bots and bugs together. Guild leaderboards and even events where groups could compete for bonus rewards would certainly add something for the more competitive Helldivers, while also furthering the war effort.
