iHeart Media recently announced that it is investing in binaural audio, also known as 3D audio. The technology is intended to make listeners feel as if they are in the same room as a recording. The rise of 3D audio could herald a revolution in podcasting, experts say.
“In a typical podcast, it's just one person talking,” John Merchant, chair of the Recording Industry department at Middle Tennessee State University, said in a telephone interview.
"You can imagine how interesting it would be if with 3D audio you no longer talked to people, but were actually in the scene yourself."
