Robot vacuums have become indispensable cleaning tools for busy households, but they’re also technology—and technology sometimes has problems. You might notice that your Roomba stops connecting to your Wi-Fi or is acting up in some way. In these cases, you’ll need to reboot or even perform a factory reset.
How to Reset a Roomba Vacuum Cleaner (Roomba Factory Reset)
According to iRobot, the device's manufacturer, performing a "Robot Reboot" on a Roomba will fix most minor issues. A reboot doesn't delete any information, so your maps, schedules, and general preferences remain safe.
For most newer models, you can simply open the app you use to control the vacuum, tap Product Settings, then restart Roomba. You will have to confirm that you want to perform the action again before it will start.
If you want to do this manually or don’t have an app, press and hold the Clean button. If you have an i Series, s Series, or Braava Jet m Series, hold it for about 20 seconds. If you have an aj Series, hold it for nine seconds. Roomba 800 and 900 series machines will reboot after holding it for 10 seconds. If you don’t have a Wi-Fi connected Roomba (so a 500, 600, 700 series, or Roomba e Series), hold the Home and Spot buttons for 10 seconds.
