When it comes to digital music, does format really matter? The answer: It depends.

There are compressed and uncompressed audio files, which can have a lossy or lossless quality. Lossless files can be very large, but if you have sufficient storage space (e.g. a PC or laptop, network attached storage drive, media server, etc.) and you have more advanced audio equipment, there are advantages to using uncompressed or lossless audio.
