Tinder will soon offer you the ability to perform a background check on a potential date, in an effort to make online dating safer for everyone involved.
Would background checks make dating apps safer?
The addition of background checks allows users to see if the people they’re interested in have alarming criminal records. As online dating becomes the norm for more people, especially during a pandemic, experts say background checks are a necessary addition to the dating world.
“I think it's brilliant that Tinder added this feature,” Susan Winter, a relationship expert and love coach based in New York, told Lifewire over the phone.
“We don't know who's behind that profile: we don't know if they're single, if they're a stalker, if they're harmful… we don't even know if they want a relationship.”
