Below are general steps to help you get started with your new router. However, it’s a good idea to have your router’s manual handy, as some details will vary based on the specific device you own. Mesh network routers, for example, are quite different than your traditional router. Manuals are often available online if you don’t have a physical copy.
Plug the router into the power source and wait a few minutes for it to turn on. Most will boot automatically, in which case the status lights will indicate that it is on. If it is not, look for a power button and turn it on.
Connect the router to the modem installed by your ISP using an Ethernet cable. If your modem is installed outside of your home, there should be a cable or port inside your home that you can connect your router to.
