Employers are increasingly using artificial intelligence to track their employees, a practice that observers say raises privacy concerns.
How AI Cameras Monitor and Control Workers on the Workplace
Amazon installed machine-learning cameras in its delivery vans earlier this year. The company recently told its drivers they must agree to their use. The practice of on-the-job surveillance may be legal, but not everyone agrees that it’s ethical.
“Companies have been using employee monitoring tools for decades, but as technology advances, they are becoming more intrusive,” said Aimee O'Driscoll, a security researcher at technology comparison website Comparitech, in an email interview.
"Monitoring employees can largely be seen as an invasion of privacy. You could argue that what Amazon is doing is not much different than installing surveillance cameras in the office."
