Imagine if your tired old laptop finally gave up the ghost, you could harvest its parts and transplant them into a tiny desktop box. With Framework computers, you can do just that.

It’s far, far better to reuse and repurpose technology than to recycle it, and modular laptop maker Framework will soon sell you a $39 enclosure that can rehouse your used laptop components, turning them into a sort of PC Mac mini. You can then give it to a friend or family member or use it for pretty much anything that would otherwise require you to buy another gadget.
"I'm a firm believer that reusing is far more important than recycling when it comes to reducing our impact on the planet. While recycling can certainly be helpful in reducing waste and minimizing the environmental damage caused by throwing products away, it is ultimately a last resort. Instead, we should prioritize finding ways to reuse products and materials as much as possible to minimize waste and reduce the demand for new resources," computer science expert and educational technologist Simon Bacher told Lifewire via email.
We often think of recycling as a way to neutralize our impact on the environment, but while it’s generally better than not recycling at all, it also has its own problems. For starters, there are very few materials that are truly recyclable. Aluminum can typically be melted down and reused as new, along with a few types of plastic, but you usually end up with a product of diminished quality. For example, old water bottles usually don’t end up as new water bottles.
