Thought the megapixel race was over? Well, a new camera from Fujifilm has 100MP, and pre-orders have already sold more than all three previous models combined.
HOW MANY MEGAPIXELS DO YOU NEED? YOU WILL BE SURPRISED!
Fujifilm's new GFX100S is a 102-megapixel monster compared to Sony's A7RIV, which "only" has 61MP, and cameras from Nikon, Panasonic and Canon, which have around 45MP. Megapixels were ditched in favor of larger pixels and higher sensitivity, but now pixels are back. These cameras aren't for most people, but if quality is what you're after above all else, they're your best bet. Still, even these high-end, expensive cameras have their drawbacks.
"It's cool when you have stationary subjects," tech journalist and camera reviewer Andrea Nepori told Lifewire via direct message. "Even at 50MP, it's impossible to avoid a little micro-blur when shooting handheld."
Even if you’re not a dedicated photographer, this is great news. By keeping separate series of cameras for different purposes, it allows each series to be its own. The 100MP beast that is the GFX100S means that Fujifilm’s X-series can easily push the envelope at 26MP, on a small APS-C size (23.5mm x 15.6mm) sensor. Instead of being forced to buy a camera with files that are 100MB+ each to get peak performance, you can combine quality and quantity. Everyone’s a winner.
