Google has launched a new feature called “Hum to Search” to solve a frustrating problem: a song stuck in your head and you can’t remember what it’s called.
How to Use Google Buzzing Features! (Google Buzzing Update)
The idea of humming to find a song seems incredibly simple, so why is Google only launching this feature in 2020? Well, it turns out that identifying songs this way is actually quite complicated, partly because our hummed versions are often quite different from the original song. In a recent post on its AI blog, Google explains how it used machine learning to solve this problem and ultimately help people find a song by humming, whistling, or singing the melody, even if their rendition isn’t entirely accurate.
“With Hum to Search, we want to help people identify and find the music that gets stuck in their head,” a Google spokesperson said in an email to Lifewire.
Google users ask what song is playing nearly 100 million times a month, Aparna Chennapragada, Google's vice president and general manager of consumer shopping, said in a video introducing several new search features. Now there's a way to find out.
