The Star Chase gadget can be launched from a police car onto another vehicle to follow it during a chase. It tracks runaway suspects using GPS and was recently adopted by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in Ohio to help prevent high-speed chases. Experts say avoiding chases can save lives.
“Pursuits are incredibly dangerous,” said former federal law enforcement officer Leonard A. Sipes Jr. in an email interview.
"You never know what the driver is going to do. Drivers are often young and under the influence of drugs or alcohol and drive on pure adrenaline. They put themselves and others in danger for minor violations."
