The Meta (Oculus) Quest and Quest 2 virtual reality headsets let you game wirelessly, so you don’t have to worry about tripping over cables or feeling tethered to a PC. But that freedom comes at a price: You’ll need to charge them every once in a while. Here’s how to tell when your gear is running low on battery, and how long you should wait before you can game again.
The batteries in both the Quest and Quest 2 have roughly the same capacity: around 3,640 mAh. If you use the included cables, they should take about the same amount of time to charge; according to the manufacturer, it's between 2 and 2.5 hours from empty to full.
If you’re using the Elite Strap with a battery pack on your Quest 2, allowing you to use it longer before needing to plug it in, the extra storage will add some time to that number. But since your Quest 2 will use the external battery before it uses the internal battery, you can power the extra battery separately halfway through your session and still get the total time from your built-in power source.
You can also continue to use your Oculus Quest or Quest 2 while they're charging, but you may not have the same freedom of movement when they're connected.
