Meta's new Threads app sparks social media war with Twitter
The decentralized social media network, codenamed P92, could be compatible with ActivityPub, which services like Mastodon are built on. Users will be able to log in with their existing Instagram credentials, meaning it will be trivially easy to join Mastodon instances around the world. Many have moved to Mastodon, a decentralized collection of many federated servers that you can join. At its simplest, it’s a bit like email, in that you choose your email provider, but you can email anyone using a different email service.
