TiVo sells a Digital Video Recorder set-top box for a flat fee and a TiVo service plan for a monthly or annual fee. The box is the actual hardware that receives the TV signal from a cable provider or over-the-air (OTA) antenna. The TiVo service plan is the software used to schedule recordings, access and update program guides, and stream content via third-party streaming apps like Netflix or Hulu.

TiVo offers you a choice of four different digital video recorders (DVRs), depending on whether you want to record cable TV, over-the-air broadcasts, or both.
