Virtual reality may soon look more like real life.
This video game will literally kill you?!?! 😂🤯 #shorts
MIT researchers have developed a new way to create sharper, defect-free displays. The technique could produce screens with much higher pixel densities and could impact a variety of gadgets, including televisions.
“Because VR displays are near-eye displays, they require very high pixel densities, estimated at over 2300 PPI (pixel-per-inch), to make them realistic and fully immersive because of how sensitive our eyes are,” Jiho Shin, one of the paper’s authors, told Lifewire in an email interview. “Until now, there hasn’t been a micro-LED display that could achieve this high pixel density.”
The MIT team wanted to create displays that would circumvent a looming problem in displays. Manufacturers have discovered that LEDs are reaching a limit to how small they can be and still be practical.
