New technologies can ensure that more people around the world have access to safe drinking water.
New technologies can help recycle water – Futuris
Researchers recently announced that they are working on a gadget that could help tackle water scarcity. They are designing a wearable device that can literally produce clean, safe water out of thin air. More drinking water is urgently needed worldwide, experts say.
“Right now we have a limited amount of clean water, and for a variety of reasons, including lack of water treatment, watershed erosion, climate change and increased commercial competition for water, there will be even less water to supply the world’s expected population of nine billion people in 20 years,” said Mike Mantel, CEO of Living Water, a nonprofit organization that advocates for increased access to clean water, in an email interview.
“The problem of water scarcity will only increase without intelligent development of technology to purify water, protect the planet and provide equal access to low-income people,” he added.
