I used to look down on virtual reality (VR). At best, it seemed like a waste of time. At worst, a distraction from living life to the fullest in the real world.
VR headset is deadly if lost (don't put it on!)
Not anymore. A combination of reasonably priced, high-quality VR headsets, great apps, and pandemic lockdowns have converted me. Virtual reality has undergone a quiet revolution over the past year, making everything from gaming to work a real possibility.
I’ve experimented with previous VR headsets, but they always left me feeling unsatisfied. Blocky graphics marred previous generations of headsets. I also hated the idea of being tethered to a desktop, as some VR gear demanded.
The first VR headset that captured my imagination was the Oculus Go, which had a fairly polished design and a reasonable price. I loved the freedom of a headset that didn’t require you to plug it into a computer.
