Perhaps you learned how to use an EpiPen when your child developed a food allergy; you took a CPR course before your baby was born; and you have first aid supplies in your car, office, and home. Injuries and accidents are inevitable in life, and we want to be prepared.
First Aid for Mental Health – Family
But the reality is that one in five young people and adolescents have a mental health condition. Shouldn’t parents be prepared to provide first aid for mental health issues too? You can learn skills now to recognize the signs of a problem and help your child find the right professional help if they need it. If you’ve ever tried to help someone with a mental health crisis, you know how frightening and helpless it can feel. So why not empower yourself now, in case your child experiences a crisis in the future?
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training to help someone who is in a mental health crisis, or is just beginning to experience a mental health problem. This type of training can be especially useful for parents and people who work with children, such as teachers and coaches.
You can choose between a course to help adults with mental health issues or a course specifically designed to help adolescents aged 12 to 18. In both cases, you can choose between in-person training (if available in your area), blended in-person training (with a virtual component and a live component) or a fully virtual course.
