The facial authenticator is a new feature on the device that can analyze a consumer's face down to the smallest detail. Glasses or facial hair do not hinder recognition. This allows users to gain security and convenience in many ways.
Traditional authentication methods like photo IDs are on the way out, as newer tools are less susceptible to abuse and identity theft. These on-device networks, like RealSense ID, are looking to conquer markets from healthcare to finance to housing, to ensure users are more safe and secure.
"Facial recognition is convenient in many ways; it's also concerning in other ways. In terms of convenience, it's fairly secure and hands-free," Achuta Kadambi, an assistant professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at UCLA, said in a phone interview with Lifewire.
