Spotify recently started pushing a new user interface to its desktop and web players. While the company had previously introduced the interface on mobile, it added a number of user-requested changes and made searching a bit more difficult, as you can no longer search from a page within the app.
Despite some backlash to the changes, offering users more recommended content could broaden their listening habits beyond just using a standard search function.
“The focus has shifted more from search to recommendations. It's a natural transition,” Dr. Chirag Shah, an associate professor at the University of Washington's Information School, told Lifewire in a phone call.
