Popular video app TikTok recently rolled out a series of features aimed at keeping bullies at bay, including the ability to delete comments and block accounts in bulk.

The new features include the ability for TikTok users to delete up to 100 comments at once or block the same number of accounts in bulk, makers of the popular app announced in a May 20 post. “We hope this update helps creators feel more empowered over their experience on TikTok,” Joshua Goodman, the company’s director of product, trust and safety, wrote in the announcement.

"I think it's a good thing that users can more easily block comments and accounts, but it's questionable whether it helps stem the tide of bullying," Justin Patchin, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, told Lifewire in an email. "It's likely to help if users are ganged up on one specific incident, with multiple other users coming after them at the same time."

Patchin also co-directs the Cyberbullying Research Center, which has partnered with TikTok to better understand bullying on and off the platform and to support users of the app.
