To get from point A to point B using Google Maps, you’ll occasionally want to find something along the route you’re taking (or about to take). Think of a gas station, a store, a place to stop and eat.
Planning multi-stop routes with Google Maps
You might think this would involve a lot of jumping back and forth between navigation mode and regular map mode, but Google Maps anticipates that you’ll want to do this and actually makes it pretty easy. You can search along a route, whether you’re already navigating somewhere or still in the planning stages.
If you are planning ahead, the best way to do this is on Google Maps on the web. Try searching for a location and then get directions using your preferred mode of transportation. Select your preferred route and then click in the Search Along Route box at the top of the screen. This will show you places along your selected route. Once you click in the box, you will see some suggestions, such as hotels and campsites, but you can choose anything you like.
Perform the search and you’ll be presented with a selection of options marked as red pins on the map. Additional information about each location (parking, opening hours and all the usual details) is displayed on the left. If you don’t see anything you like right away, you can zoom in on the map and click Search in this area to see more options.
