This article explains how to add accent marks to Google Docs using keyboard shortcuts or by copying the accented letters from Google Input Tools or another add-on. These methods work on both Windows and macOS.

If you can remember them or don't mind keeping a cheat sheet handy, you can quickly and easily write accented letters by hitting certain keys at the same time.

As you can see in the table below, Windows users should hold down Alt while pressing a few numbers. Use your keyboard to do this, not the numbers in the top row.

On a Mac, it’s a little different. If we take Á as an example, you’ll see that you first need to hold down the Option key and then press e. The comma you see means that you need to press all the way down (lift all fingers off the keyboard). Then continue with the rest of the directions; in this case, you’d type Shift+a.
