Mastodon offers many options on its platform to give you more control over what is visible to you and what might interest you. If you’ve been actively using Mastodon to only see posts in languages you don’t know, there’s a better way to browse the content on the platform. To ensure you only see posts made in languages you know, Mastodon helps you effectively block all other languages from your timelines.
How to Use Mastodon Social Network | Beginner's Guide
In this post, we’ll explain how to block posts in certain languages from appearing on Mastodon, what happens when you block languages, and how to unblock posts on your account.
Mastodon lets you block posts from specific languages by giving you the ability to choose your preferred language for viewing posts on the platform. When you select your preferred language, any languages you haven’t selected will be blocked, and posts in the unselected languages won’t appear in your public timelines, including local and federated timelines. If you follow people who occasionally post in a language you don’t speak, you may still see those posts on your Home timeline.
To block messages based on languages, open your Mastodon instance in a web browser and log in to your account. This is not possible in the official Mastodon app, which lacks the option to filter messages. Once you're in your Mastodon instance, click on the Preferences tab in the right sidebar.
