Mines in video games are often dangerous places full of secret tunnels. The same goes for the Suikoden sequel, so here's how to break through rock barriers in the Abandoned Mine in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

By pushing the train carts full of large rocks, you can break through rocky barriers in Abandoned Mine. Searching for Kogen's bandits leads to Abandoned Mines, and giant barriers block your path. You can use the train carts to destroy those barriers and move on, but if the carts are empty, you'll have to push them to the opposite wall to fill it.
West of the village of Altverden lies the Abandoned Mine, the hideout of Kogen's bandits. After you gather your crew, Ymir will task you with dealing with the bandit problem in Altverden. Altverden is a village west of Eltisweiss (you visited it when you recruited Kuroto).
