This article explains how to calculate a percentage in Excel using several methods, including formulas and formatting. The approach you choose depends on the results you want and the version of Excel you are using. Instructions cover Excel in Microsoft 365, Excel 2019-2007, Excel Online, and Excel for Mac.
Although there is no basic percentage formula in Excel, you can multiply a number by a percentage using a formula. For example, if you have a column of numbers and want to calculate 10% of one of those numbers, you would enter 10% in another cell and then use a formula with the asterisk as the multiplication operator.
Select an empty cell where you want the answer to appear. Enter an equal sign (=) followed by an open parenthesis to create the formula.
Select the cell containing the number for which you want to calculate 10%.
