In the early days of social media, you could change your profile name as often as you wanted, but now changing your name on any social media app comes with its own limitations. If you were planning on changing your display name or username on Instagram, the following post should explain how often you can change them, how to do it, and what to do if you can’t change your name on the platform.
How to Change Your Instagram Username! (2020)
Instagram has two places for your name: your display name and your username. Luckily, you can easily change both from the mobile app.
The display name is where you would normally enter your real name and it will appear just below your Instagram photo on your profile. Display names do not have any character limitations and do not have to be unique to your profile. You can change your display name twice in 2 weeks (14 days) and no more.
Usernames, on the other hand, are unique identifiers, meaning your exact username can only be used by you and no one else. You can add a username of up to 30 characters at a time, including letters, numbers, underscores, and periods. Unlike display names, usernames on Instagram can be changed an unlimited number of times, as long as the name you update to is available to use initially.
