What is SSID? How to find yours and why should you change it?
SSID stands for Service Set Identifier and is the primary name of your WiFi network. Tapping the WiFi icon on your phone or computer will bring up a list of available networks within range that have different names consisting of letters and/or numbers.
For example, you will see simple names like Airport WiFi or funny names like FBI Surveillance Van 4, which are SSIDs for those specific networks. From the list, you can identify the name of your network and connect to the internet.
Most router manufacturers set default router SSIDs, such as NETGEAR_XXXX or Linksys_XXXX. If you’re on a home Wi-Fi network, you can choose to leave it as is or personalize it with a name of your choice. We’ll show you how.
