This article explains how to choose and install different speaker wire connectors: banana plugs, spade connectors, and pin connectors. It's a simple and inexpensive upgrade for your home stereo system.
Speaker Cable Basics (Quick & Easy)
There are three types of wire connectors that you can use with your speaker wires: banana plugs, spade connectors, and pin connectors. Each type is easy to install and requires only a few simple tools. To choose the right type, you should first look at the terminals that are available on your equipment.
You can have several different types of connections on the back of stereo equipment. Sometimes you have more than one type on each (for example, receivers and amplifiers). So if your speaker has spring terminals, for example, you want a pair of pin connectors. And if your receiver/amplifier has binding posts, you'll want a pair of banana plugs or spade connectors.
Before purchasing a connector, you should know what gauge your speaker wires are.
