Comparing two folders without actually going through their contents can sometimes be useful. Let’s look at a few methods to achieve this in Windows.
How to Easily Compare Two Folders with Multiple Files Without Using Any Applications
Of course, you could always manually open each directory to check for files, but that becomes unwieldy — especially if you have to dig through dozens or even hundreds of folders with similar files (backups, for example). For such scenarios, you need a better approach.
An easy way to quickly view the details of a folder is to look at its Properties. While this doesn't require you to open the folder and view its contents, you still need to right-click on each folder individually for which you want to check the properties.
This makes it unsuitable for large-scale comparisons, but for most home users that won't be a problem. If you just want to look at the size of each folder and how many files it contains, the Properties window will suffice.
