This article explains how to connect a landline telephone to a modem. Instructions generally apply to all modems, including cable modems, fiber optic modems, and modem-router combination devices.

Before you begin, your modem and internet service must be set up. Unless your modem has an additional phone port, you will need to connect the phone through your router.

Connect your router to your modem if it isn't already.

Turn off your router and modem by disconnecting the power supply.
