The beauty of HDMI is that you can send both audio and video from a source (such as a Blu-ray Disc player) to a destination (such as a home theater receiver or TV) using a single cable.

HDMI does have some issues, however, such as occasional problems caused by the handshaking requirements (both the source and the TV or video projector must recognize each other in order to connect).

Another issue with HDMI is its effectiveness over long distances. It is recommended that HDMI source and destination devices be no more than 15 feet apart for best results. However, HDMI cables can reliably extend this to about 30 feet. Additionally, some HDMI cables, if properly constructed (and that doesn’t necessarily mean extremely expensive), can extend signal integrity to 50 feet.
