This article explains how to convert WAV files to MP3 with Audacity on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
How to Convert WAV File to MP3 File in Audacity
Audacity is one of the best ways to edit audio files, so it makes sense that you would also want to convert files with the program. However, when you want to export an audio file in a format like WAV to MP3, you quickly learn that by default, you can't do that unless you tell Audacity where to find the LAME MP3 encoder.
Using the LAME MP3 encoder in Audacity, you can reduce the amount of space your audio files take up on your hard drive. MP3 is a lossy format (i.e., not a bit-perfect conversion) that stores audio in a compressed format.
Once you have Audacity installed and the appropriate LAME files on hand, you can now convert from WAV to MP3.
