The great thing about the iPad is how many great apps you can download for it. But this comes at a price: a lot of apps on your iPad! Create a folder for your apps to keep everything tidy.

How to Create Folders on Your iPad

Grab the app with your finger. If you’re not familiar with moving apps around on your iPad screen, you can “grab” an app by holding your finger on it for a few seconds. The app icon will get slightly larger, and wherever you move your finger, the app will follow, as long as you keep your finger on the screen. To move from one screen of apps to another, simply move your finger to the edge of your iPad’s screen and wait for the screen to change.

Drop the app onto another app icon. Create a folder by dragging an app onto another app that you want in the same folder. After you grab the app, create a folder by dragging it on top of another app that you want in the same folder. When you hover over the destination app, the app will flash a few times and then expand into a folder view. Simply drop the app onto that new folder screen to create the folder.

Give the folder a name. iPad gives the folder a default name like Games, Business, or Entertainment when you create it. But if you want a custom name for the folder, it's easy to edit. First, you'll need to exit folder view. Close a folder by clicking the Home button. On the Home screen, touch and hold the folder until all of the apps on the screen start to shake. Then, lift your finger and tap the folder to expand it. The folder name at the top of the screen can be edited by tapping on it, which will bring up the on-screen keyboard. Once you've edited the name, click the Home button to exit editing mode.
