Each image grid that Midjourney generates based on a specific prompt has an associated seed value that is unique to that prompt. The Seed or –seed parameter is what allows you to create identical images and modify images that have already been created on Midjourney.
Midjourney Seed – BEST USE! How, Explained AND Examples
When you generate an image grid from a prompt, Midjourney will randomly assign a seed number to these images. This number will act as a field of visual noise and will be considered the starting point for the initial image grid.
You can have Midjourney generate a random seed value for your generations or you can specify a preferred seed value for the images you will create. When you generate an image grid without assigning a seed value, you can obtain the seed value by querying detailed information about your creation once it is generated. This is necessary in situations where you want to recreate images you have previously generated or modify them with different parameters.
The behavior of seed values also changes depending on the Midjourney model you are using for your image generation. If you assign an identical seed value to versions 4, 5, and niji of Midjourney, the AI tool will produce nearly identical images. If you choose to use them for older Midjourney models (versions 1, 2, 3, test, and testp), you will get images with similar composition, color, and detail, but they will not be exactly identical to the original set of images you created earlier.
