If you have an iPhone and a dashboard in your car that supports the technology, you should be able to use Apple CarPlay on the go. It extends many of your iPhone apps to the larger screen in your vehicle, particularly Apple Maps, Google Maps, and the apps you use to play your music and podcasts.
Make Apple CarPlay super convenient! (Customize it to your preferences)
While CarPlay works fine in its default configuration, you can customize it in a few different ways, which I’ll explain here. If you’re on the road a lot, it makes sense to set up the interface in a way that works best for you. Assuming you’ve gotten through the initial connection process, here are some things you can change to suit your needs.
In the bottom corner of the CarPlay interface is an icon that changes shape depending on which screen you’re on, but always looks like a combination of black squares and rectangles. Tap it to switch between the app drawer and the main CarPlay screen with widgets (usually a maps app and a media app). In the US, this icon is on the left side, but if you’re in a right-hand drive car, as in my screenshots, it’ll be on the right.
To make a particular app go into full screen mode, select it from the left sidebar or app drawer: This will give you more options (like the ability to zoom in and out of the on-screen map). You can also tap on an app in widget view to make it go into full screen mode. Use the icon in the bottom left corner to return to widgets.
