Commander Gaius is a formidable opponent. He’s fast and the boar he rides is a boss in its own right, both of which deal massive amounts of damage, even if you’re really high on your Scadutree Blessing. To beat this boss, I’d say you’ll need a Mimic Tear. While all bosses are meant to be beaten in a duel, the Mimic will make your life a lot easier. But if you really want to give it a try, I have some advice for a solo run as well.
Commander Gaius has several attacks that can kill a 60 Vigor player at full HP. A single hit from any of these and you're toast. However, you can mitigate the rest of his attacks, which can instantly halve your HP by themselves, by upgrading your Scadutree Blessing level. Collect the necessary fragments, which can be found in these locations, and boost your level as much as possible before taking on this extraordinary fight (you'll get a nice reward for defeating him).
