The Lamenter is a dungeon boss that has been causing quite a headache for some Elden Ring players in Shadow of the Erdtree. While the Lamenter is simple at first, the gimmick quickly takes hold and can wipe out your entire health bar in a split second. But don't worry, we're here to help.
Promised Consort Radahn 5 Minute Boss Guide – Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
The Lamenter boss in Elden Ring is located in the Lamenter's Gaol. The closest Site of Grace is Charo's Hidden Grave Grace. From there, head west over the cliffs and follow the right wall until you reach a cave leading to the Lamenter's Gaol. For easier navigation, you can use the Plain Grace Gravesite as a reference point, as the Lamenter's Gaol is directly below it.
The Lamenter has a strange gimmick similar to the Crystal Sage from Dark Souls 3. It splits into multiple illusions of itself that can attack you as it normally would, but the illusions die in two hits. Attacking the illusions does not count against the Lamenter's health bar, but it is an important part of the fight nonetheless. Each surviving illusion is added to a counter. Once this counter reaches six, you instantly die.
The Lamenter can use this illusion-spawning trick multiple times during the fight. The best way to counter this is to use a nimble weapon with a fast moveset to take down the illusions quickly. Raw damage numbers mean nothing here, as the illusions die after two hits, regardless of the weapon. So speed is key to getting through this fight. I used Eleonora's Poleblade to decimate the illusions and his AoE Ash of War to kill multiple of them at once. Using AoE and being aggressive with the illusions will also make it easier to find the real Lamenter.
