This article describes the steps to disable Windows 11 Copilot chat windows. It also explains how to prevent Copilot from hanging next to apps when you don't want it to.
Disable Windows Copilot in Windows 11
The methods for disabling Copilot work in a similar way to the steps for closing other apps and software in Windows 11. The easiest way to close Copilot is to click the Close icon that looks like an X in the upper-right corner of the screen.
You can also close Copilot by clicking the app icon in the lower right corner of the screen on the right side of the taskbar. The Copilot app icon looks like two rectangles with a rainbow gradient.
You can also use a keyboard shortcut to open and close Copilot in Windows 11. Some modern (2024 and later) Microsoft keyboards also have a dedicated Copilot key.
