Do you miss the days when a Google search would just give you a list of links, and not a slowly updating box of questionably reliable AI-generated junk? You can return to those earlier, simpler times by tweaking your Chrome settings.
How to Disable Google AI in Results (AI Overview) with a Simple Solution
Last week, Google started adding AI suggestions to everyone’s search results. Some people probably like these summaries, but for me, they take way too long to load. I’d rather see a list of links right away than see a summary of those links a few seconds later, potentially full of incorrect information. If you’re okay with that, the good news is that Google now offers a web search feature. The bad news: There’s no easy way to make it the default.
At least that wasn't the case until journalist Ernie Smith of Tedium found a way to force search engines to show Google's web results.
Basically, you need to create a custom search engine in your browser that points to Google’s web experience. You can do this by adding https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14 as a search engine. Smith explains this well, but if you’re not interested in all the technical details, just know that the URL points your browser specifically to Google’s web results panel.
