Apple’s first Magic Mouse and its successor, Magic Mouse 2, exhibit few quirks. When your Apple mouse isn’t working, there are several solutions you can try.

Most solutions for an Apple mouse that is not working properly are simple. Try these solutions to get your mouse working again in no time.

If you are using a first-generation Magic Mouse and you notice that the mouse is tracking hesitantly, try reinstalling the battery. The most likely reason is that the batteries in the mouse have lost contact with the battery terminals. As a result, the Magic Mouse and Mac will temporarily lose Bluetooth connectivity. To see if the mouse is experiencing a battery connectivity issue, lift the Magic Mouse off the surface you are using it on. If the green power LED is blinking, the batteries are likely loose.

Charge the built-in battery in your Magic Mouse 2. It doesn’t have the battery terminal problem because it doesn’t use standard AA batteries. Instead, Apple created a special rechargeable battery pack for the second-generation mouse that you won’t have access to. Check the battery charge by clicking the Bluetooth icon in your Mac menu bar or in Mouse preferences. If the battery is low, take a break and plug it in.
