There are few things worse than having connection issues when you boot up your PlayStation 4 to play a few games of an online game like Fortnite or Overwatch. One particularly annoying problem is when your PS4 fails to connect to your Wi-Fi network within the time limit. You may be presented with a blue screen with the message, “Failed to connect to the Wi-Fi network within the time limit.” There is also an OK prompt, but no additional information like an error code.

When a connection times out, it typically means that a server is waiting too long to respond to a request for data from another device, in this case the PlayStation 4. The error message appears when the request is not completed within a predetermined amount of time. As you can see in the example above, the message offers no clues as to what is causing the timeout or how to resolve it.
