This article explains how to reset your router to factory defaults using the 30-30-30 rule. Resetting your router can mean two things: either turning it off and on again, leaving the settings intact, or resetting it to its factory defaults.

While the procedure may vary from router to router, the rule of thumb for a factory reset is generally referred to as a 30-30-30 reset: hold the reset button for 30 seconds, unplug the router for 30 seconds, then plug the router back in with the reset button held down and holding for another 30 seconds.

With the router plugged in and powered on, press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. This button is usually a small dot recessed into the back of the router. You may need a jeweler's screwdriver or bent paperclip to reach it.

While still holding the button, unplug the router from the power source for another 30 seconds.
