There are a handful of items you can use as you progress through No Rest for the Wicked, but their exact uses are sometimes shrouded in mystery. You only learn how to use them as you progress through the game, and Fallen Ember is one of those items.
How to Farm Fallen Ember in No Rest for the Wicked (Infinite Fallen Ember)
It's an item you'll come across during your No Rest for the Wicked playthrough, but it doesn't have a clear purpose. You might be wondering if you should keep them or consider selling them when you'd be better off with as much money as possible to use for other things you're using. I'd advise against this, however, and find it better to store Fallen Ember until you're ready to use it.
The only way to use a Fallen Ember is if you have access to the Cerim Crucible. Before entering the dungeon in No Rest for the Wicked, you must sacrifice a Fallen Ember at the pedestal. Fortunately, the dungeon only requires one Fallen Ember for each attempt, meaning you can build up a large stack of Fallen Embers before descending into the Cerim Crucible.
The enemies in the Cerim Crucible are dangerous. These are elite enemies, similar to the enemies you encountered in specific locations while exploring No Rest for the Wicked. Since this is an endgame dungeon, it’s an ideal opportunity to test your skills when you reach this part of the game to see if you’re ready to take on more difficult encounters in the future.
