Oil is a valuable resource that is primarily used for fuel in Frostpunk 2. Since life is understandably tough for your citizens in the extremely cold temperatures and harsh conditions, you’ll need a steady supply of this resource to keep your city running. You’ll start out with coal as your fuel in the beginning, but oil becomes the better option later in the game because 1 oil generates 5 heat as opposed to 1 heat from 1 coal. If you’re struggling with where to get more oil, and how to mine and transfer it, this guide will come in handy.

Players can obtain oil from the Frostlands' Old Dreadnought colony in the first chapter of the story mode. Search for wells and extract oil from them – you can do this by setting up Extraction Districts in the 3 deposits of this location. Make sure you have already set up a Logistics District at an Old Waystation (with the Frostbreaker), as this will allow you to explore the frozen lands surrounding New London and find a source of fuel to secure its future.
Now that you have oil from here, you need to send it to New London and for this you need to use the Resource Transfer option. Click on the Colony icon in the upper right corner of the screen and then click on the Barrel symbol to transfer resources.
