If you’ve broken up with your significant other, you may be wishing your phone wouldn’t constantly remind you of their existence. Photo galleries on most modern phones automatically create all sorts of interesting collages and slideshows, which is great if the memories in question are happy ones, but can also be triggering after a bad breakup. I’ve written before about how to delete photos of your ex from your iPhone , and this guide will help people using Android phones do the same.
How to Hide Photos on ANY Android! (2022)
It should be noted that different Android phone manufacturers use their own versions of the photo gallery app. The steps for hiding or deleting photos of your ex from these apps vary, so I'm going to focus on an app that comes on most Android phones in the US: Google Photos. It's the photo backup service of choice for most Android users. Unfortunately, it won't let you automatically delete all of a person's photos, but there are a few handy workarounds that can help you quickly hide photos of your ex.
If you're sure you don't want to see photos of your ex but don't want to delete them entirely, use Google Photos' Archive feature. This will move those photos to a separate folder and prevent them from being added to any new Memories the service creates. To do this, open Google Photos and tap and hold on a picture of your ex. Keep scrolling, selecting all the photos you don't want to see until you've found them all. When you're done, swipe right on the bottom toolbar and select Archive.
This is the nuclear option, but it requires a lot more manual work in Google Photos than it does in Photos on iPhone. You have to manually select all of your ex’s photos and select the Delete option in the bottom toolbar to permanently delete those photos. They will still be in the Trash folder, which you can access by going to the Library tab in Google Photos and selecting Trash. Deleted photos are permanently deleted after 60 days.
