Nightingale's skill system is based on a Gear Score, which is the level of your equipment. Apart from the initial character customization, there is no classic progression through levels that rely on experience points and skills. Your level in the game is determined by the quality of your weapons, tools, clothes and equipment.
Each piece of equipment has its own Gear Score, which is a measure of quality. Starting items have a single-digit Gear Score, and you can’t do much with them other than harvest essentials. Increasing your Gear Score not only makes your character more powerful, but also unlocks new upgrade options.
