This article describes how to monitor your data usage so that you don't exceed your mobile data plan's data limit. This is especially important when traveling outside your mobile provider's normal coverage area, as data limits may be lower.
Check data usage on Android
Download an app for your smartphone to track your data usage and in some cases even turn off your data usage before you reach a preset limit:
To check your current month’s usage on your Android phone, go to Settings > Connections > Data usage. The screen will show your billing period and the amount of mobile data you’ve used so far. You can also set a mobile data limit on this screen.
The iPhone Settings app has a Cellular screen that gives an indication of usage. Tap Settings > Cellular and look under Cellular Data Usage to see usage for the current period.
